Welcome to Skills Camp: Chess Edition, where strategy meets confidence and every move matters! At Laurence, we’re bringing chess to life through a fun, engaging, and skill-building experience designed for players of all levels. This camp will employ the tools that have made Laurence the top-ranked elementary school chess team in Southern California: engaging instruction, fun brain-building drills, and casual play with friends. It’s so much fun that over 100 Laurence students joined chess this past school year! This camp goes beyond the basics of gameplay. Whether you’re just learning how the pieces move or already thinking several steps ahead, our expert coaches—including Coach Jay, his all-star team, and Mr. Romano—will meet you where you are and help you grow. Through personalized coaching, interactive lessons, and exciting daily challenges, campers will strengthen their strategic thinking and sharpen their decision-making skills. Throughout the week, students will track their progress with a Chess Skills Passport, earn milestone achievements, and tackle customized Puzzle Packs that evolve with their abilities. From themed game days to friendly competition, every moment is designed to build focus, resilience, and sportsmanship—all in a supportive and energetic environment. No experience needed—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn.
