This program is designed for aspiring engineers (typically rising 2nd through 5th graders, depending on location) who are ready to move beyond basic building and dive into the world of authentic robotics. Here is a parent-focused overview of the curriculum and the logistical details for the camp. The Experience: "Build, Code, Compete" In the Vex-plorers camp, children use the VEX GO and VEX IQ robotics systems to bridge the gap between simple machines and advanced automation. The week is centered on the "Engineering Design Process"—the same cycle of planning, building, testing, and refining used by professional engineers. Key Hands-On Highlights: Mechanical Engineering: Campers explore how gears, motors, axles, and sensors work together to create movement and power. Coding & Logic: Using a block-based coding interface (similar to Scratch), students program their robots to complete autonomous missions, navigate obstacle courses, and respond to their environment. The "Robot Olympics": Throughout the week, teams participate in friendly challenges such as robot soccer, "Super Car" races, and delivery missions that test both their build quality and their programming skills. Problem Solving: When a robot doesn't turn as expected or a gear slips, campers work through "debugging" their physical builds and their code.
