AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini are changing how we write, research, organize information, communicate, plan, and solve problems. In this five-session course, we’ll learn basic AI principals, explore AI uses, learn to direct AI effectively, evaluate the output, and dig into what “responsible use” means. All levels of experience are welcome. Whether you already use AI regularly, have experimented a little, or have never tried it, you’ll have opportunities to work at your own level, ask questions, and learn from others’ experiences, as well as share from your own. If you have a phone, tablet or laptop you use professionally, we encourage you to bring it to class, so you are using the device you are most familiar with. If you cannot provide your own device, Adult Ed is happy to provide devices for classroom use. This is a "flipped classroom," which means some learning happens before we meet. Before each session, you’ll have access to a curated collection of videos and other resources to explore. You will choose your own viewing adventure based on your interests and experience. You do not need to watch everything- though a few things are foundational. When we meet, we’ll share what we discovered, compare perspectives, and use those ideas as a springboard for hands-on exploration and conversation during our class time. We strongly encourage people to come to class with some ideas about what parts of their working life might benefit from an AI assist, keeping in mind the important ground rule: we do not enter confidential, sensitive, personally identifiable, or proprietary information into AI tools.
