About this event
Join our Wilderness First Aid Afloat course! Includes 16 class hours on-site at Healthy Island Project and Osprey's Echo Sea Kayaking. Learn vital first aid skills for remote scenarios. Whether you’re a guide, a fisherman, or an outdoor recreator, this 2-day course will equip you with the know-how for responding to a variety of injuries and life-threatening situations, both on and off the water. - Instructed by Nancy Zane (Wilderness EMT and Maine Guide) of North Star Adventures and hosted by Osprey’s Echo Sea Kayaking and Deer Isle Adult and Community Education - Wilderness First Aid (WFA) teaches you skills for responding to a variety of emergency scenarios and injuries in remote settings. Specifically, the course prepares you for situations when EMS response is 1-6 hours away (which can also occur during natural disasters). - A WFA certification is valid for 2 years and required for Maine Guides. If you’re an aspiring guide or want to work in the outdoor industry, this course is a great step toward success. - If you fish or are interested in a fishing career, learn how to provide first aid to a crew member (keep in mind that out on the water you’re much further from emergency response). - If you like to get outside casually (on or off the water), WFA training will keep you prepared and help you enjoy the outdoors safely. This course is $215 per person. Your confirmation email will include instructions for paying Osprey's Echo directly via payment link, cash, or check. Open to ages 16 and up (or by director discretion). If you have questions, please email gupham@su76.org or call 207-656-6262.
