About the Tour: Two guides, one hike, once a summer! Join Yampatika and Tread of Pioneers as we explore the Mad Creek valley’s exceptionally rich geologic and human past. Along the way, Tread of Pioneers Museum staff will share Mad Creek Road and area history. Midway through the hike museum staff will shed light on the iconic Mad Creek Barn and its restoration while the group has a chance to eat and take in the incredible views! Due to the terrain and topics covered, only ages 14+ are allowed. Where to Meet: We will meet in the parking lot of the Mad Creek Trailhead off of RCR 129 at 8:50am. There is a $5 parking fee for this lot. What to Expect: This tour will cover just over 4 miles out and back with ~900 feet of elevation gain. We will stop at the half way point for lunch and snacks before heading back down. What to Wear/Bring: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! Many people like to wear long pants/sleeves to protect themselves from the sun, dirt, and things that might make them itchy (mosquitos, etc.). Avoid cotton when you’re able and go with a synthetic material or wool. Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen! Be sure to pack 2 water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers, and your waterproof jacket- weather changes quickly, so make sure to prepare for cooler/wet weather. Please bring along any medications you may need, including epi-pens. We ask that you please leave furry friends at home unless they are service animals, this trail is home to rattlesnakes! This program has a 8-person minimum to run and will be canceled, with refunds, if we do not receive at least 8 registrations.
