About this event
About the Tour: Join us as we visit home sites of beavers throughout the Yampa Valley! This week, we will be visiting the Butcherknife Creek in downtown Steamboat Springs. Did you know we have a beaver family living right downtown? For this tour, we will be joined by City of Steamboat Springs staff to talk about the behind-the-scenes of urban beaver management. Learn how city staff work with other land owners to manage the needs of all of our neighbors - 2 and 4-legged. What to Wear/Bring: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! Many people like to wear long pants/sleeves to protect themselves from the sun, dirt, and things that might make them itchy (mosquitos, etc.). Also remember to wear sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen! Be sure to pack water bottles, sunscreen, extra layers, and your waterproof jacket- weather changes quickly, so make sure to prepare for cooler/wet weather. Please bring along any medications you may need, including epi-pens. We ask that you please leave furry friends at home! Lunch will be provided! If you have any dietary restrictions, please reach out to Hailey at hailey@yampatika.org. Where to Meet: We will meet at Stehley Park at 10:30am. What to Expect: This is a casual stroll where we will hear from local experts and land managers about the benefits of beavers, as well as the complications that can arise from their activity. This program has a 4-person minimum to run and will be canceled, with refunds, if we do not receive at least 4 registrations. If you have additional questions or need more information, please email hailey@yampatika.org
