About this event
Step into the fascinating world where science meets storytelling at Monsters and Myths Camp! In this monstrously marvelous Challenge Island adventure, campers will investigate how legendary creatures—from dragons and hydras to yetis and beyond—emerged from human imagination, cultural traditions, and real-world natural phenomena. Through hands-on STEAM-based activities, participants will explore the science behind the stories, examining how ancient myths may have been inspired by fossil discoveries, environmental observations, and the study of living organisms. Working in collaborative STEAM Teams, campers will apply engineering principles to design and build creature-inspired models and mechanical “monsters,” using physics, biology, and creative problem-solving to bring their ideas to life. Along the way, they’ll compare fiction and nonfiction sources, analyze patterns in myths across cultures, and uncover how humans have used stories to explain the unknown throughout history. From the aerodynamics of dragon flight to the biomechanics of a yeti’s stride—and even the physics behind the power of monster trucks—this camp combines mythology, cultural science, and engineering exploration into one epic, curiosity-fueled adventure!
