About this event
Welcome to Disaster Island—a high-energy Challenge Island adventure where science, history, and engineering collide! This thrilling camp transforms some of history’s most dramatic natural and human-made disasters into hands-on STEAM explorations. Campers will step into the role of scientists, engineers, and emergency innovators as they analyze the causes and effects of catastrophic events and use the engineering design process to develop creative solutions for survival and safety. For example, at Titanic Seas, young oceanographers and naval architects will investigate buoyancy, density, and structural design, exploring what makes ships float—and what causes them to sink. In San Francisco Earthquake, budding seismologists and civil engineers will study tectonic plate movement, wave energy, and building stability, then design earthquake-resistant structures that can withstand simulated tremors. Through collaborative teamwork, creative problem-solving, and hands-on experimentation, students will discover how scientists and engineers work to predict, prevent, and respond to real-world disasters. Equal parts exciting and educational, Disaster Island STEM Camp turns moments of historical challenge into powerful lessons in resilience, innovation, and the unstoppable force of scientific curiosity.
