The AKC Canine Good Citizen program is a nationally recognized training and evaluation program that promotes well-mannered dogs and responsible ownership. The CGC level focuses on foundational skills every dog should have for daily life. CGC is an excellent goal for family dogs, therapy dog prospects, and teams interested in continuing onto advanced training or dog sports. This class also prepares dogs and handlers for the Therapy Dogs International certification evaluation, focusing on the skills, reliability, and temperament required for successful therapy visits. Using positive, science-based training methods, teams will work on calm, confident behavior in a variety of settings while strengthening the handler's ability to guide and advocate for their dog. Emphasis is placed on safe interactions, clear communication, and maintaining focus amid distractions.
