About this event
This course is designed to prepare fire service and emergency management leaders to effectively command and control hazardous materials and WMD incidents in accordance with nationally recognized standards. Emphasizing strategic decision-making rather than hands-on operations, the course covers incident size-up, risk assessment, isolation and protective action decisions, integration of technical specialists, resource management, responder safety, and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies. Students will develop the ability to establish and manage an incident command system for complex hazmat events while protecting responders, the public, and the environment. This course meets or exceeds the requirements of NFPA 1072, Chapter 8 (Incident Commander) and 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(v) for Incident Command–level personnel.
