About this event
Prepares first-arriving officers and non-diving personnel to effectively command and coordinate water rescue and recovery incidents from the shoreline, while also providing valuable insight for departments considering the development of a dive team. The course explores the mechanisms of drowning and realistic survival rates to support sound, time-critical decision-making, and emphasizes thorough scene size-up, witness interviews, and the construction of accurate incident timelines. Students will learn how to identify likely search locations, evaluate and select appropriate search techniques, and determine the resources needed based on environmental conditions and operational objectives. Additional topics include bank-side command responsibilities, interagency coordination, and the professional management of family members and media, giving participants a well-rounded understanding of both operational command and the planning considerations necessary to safely and effectively manage dive incidents. Instructor: Thomas Robinson and Louie Robinson Prerequisite: None Equipment Required: None
