Understanding government benefits and public resources can feel overwhelming, especially as your loved ones' needs change over time. This educational seminar is designed for parents and guardians of loved ones who are neurodivergent and want a clearer understanding of how government programs and community resources can support long term planning.
During this session, families will learn about key government benefit programs, basic eligibility concepts, and how benefits often shift from childhood to adulthood. The goal is to proved practical information, help families avoid common pitfalls, and show how public benefits and private planning often work together to support quality of life.
Topics will include:
- Overview of key government programs, including SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, and Medicare
- Basic eligibility concepts, including income and asset considerations
- How government benefits often change from childhood to adulthood
- Common mistakes that unintentionally disrupt benefit eligibility
- How private planning and public benefits typically work together
- Overview of local, state, and community resources available to families
This seminar is educational only and non-product-based, with no sales or obligation to work with the presenters from New York Life Company. A general Q&A will follow the presentation, and families will be encouraged to keep learning and planning at a pace that feels right for them. Additional educational and community resources will also be shared.
This session is meant to be supportive, informative, and empowering for families navigating the many planning decisions that come with supporting a loved one with special needs.
Light refreshments will be provided.
