About this event
This course focuses on how songs can celebrate resilience, reinvention and recovery, help us process pain, grief and trauma, and inspire us to so our best creative work. Over this four-hour session we’ll work on building skills to create meaningful lyrics supported by thoughtful instrumentation and expressive vocals. C.B. Smith studied Advanced Songwriting at The New School in NYC, and additional workshops and retreats with Steve Earle, Mary Gauthier, and Richard Thompson. He has written dozens of songs steeped in folk traditions, reflecting his love of Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk-rock, soul and other styles. From 2010-2022 he led the band C.B. Smith & the Lucky Devils. C.B.’s latest album of original songs, “Look to the Sky”, will be released in early 2026. “C.B. Smith is focused and dedicated as well as being passionate about imparting skills and techniques related to songwriting.” – John Huber, Director of Education, Old Town School of Folk Music “C.B. Smith’s songs ring true. There’s no higher compliment as far as I am concerned.” – Mary Gauthier, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, author of Saved by a Song “C.B. Smith’s songs ring with authenticity and tenderness, have a unique clarity and focus, and rock with a poetic lyricism.” – Woodstock Times
