About this event
Activity Organizer: Dr. Allendoerfer Email: karen.allendoerfer@basisindependent.com Dates: Thursdays Time: 4:00 PM–5:00 PM Grades: 8–12 Description: The Neuroscience club provides an opportunity for students to learn about and explore the field of neuroscience, while also preparing for the Society for Neuroscience Brain Bee competition. Specifically, the club will offer a series of lectures and review games regarding various neuroscientific concepts, as well as immersive projects and labs. Rewards (candy) will be used for reviewing games/activities and dissection/lab equipment will be utilized to dissect sheep brains, eyes, and/or spinal cords. Guest speakers may be invited to speak over Zoom. We will also run our own in-house Brain Bee in December or January in preparation for the Bay Area competition (or as a replacement, as we have done in the past due to the cancellation of the Bay Area Bee because of COVID restrictions). During Brain Awareness Week, March 11-17, club members will prepare posters, talks, and/or events to be shared with the BISV student body to increase awareness of neuroscience and neurodiversity issues. In the past we have had a Brain Expo, made posters for a hallway bulletin board, and had a neurodiversity awareness volleyball game. These activities may be done in collaboration with the Key club or other clubs.
