This course is designed for rising Grade 8 (Stratford) and rising Grade 9 (non-Stratford or incoming freshman to Stratford Preparatory) students who plan to proceed to Honors Geometry as the next step in their mathematics pathway. This intensive six-week course covers key Algebra 1 concepts, including solving and graphing equations and inequalities, and working with linear, exponential, and quadratic functions. Course expectations include two to three hours of required, graded homework each day, along with self-study practice and multiple assessments. Students will complete a cumulative final exam at the end of the course. Students must enroll in one of two program options: For-Credit or Not-for-Credit. Please review the criteria below carefully and select the appropriate option during enrollment. For-Credit Rising Grade 8 Stratord students or incoming freshmen to Stratord Preparatory with no prior Algebra 1 completed, may take this course for credit to proceed to Honors Geometry, provided they meet both requirements below: Earned 90% or higher in Advanced Pre-Algebra during the academic year, and Earn a cumulative grade of 95% or higher in Summer Algebra 1. The cumulative grade will appear on the student’s progress report and/or transcript. Not-for-Credit This option is designed for students who wish to reinforce their Algebra 1 fundamentals. It is also appropriate for rising Grade 8 students who completed Algebra 1 in Grade 7 but did not meet the criteria to advance to Honors Geometry in Grade 8. Rising Grade 8 students may use this course to satisfy Algebra 1 requirements if they meet both requirements below: Earned 70%–85% in the academic year Algebra 1 course, and Earn a cumulative grade of 85% or higher in Summer Algebra 1. The cumulative grade will not appear on a progress report or transcript.
