These Tuesday & Thursday Open Play sessions are specifically for Beginners to learn the sport and with other Beginners as well as Intermediate and maybe even a few Advanced players who enjoy the more chill vibe of Beginner/Social pickleball.
A staff member will usually be at these sessions to teach new players the basics. On the rare occasion a staff member isn't present, the other players are really nice about teaching new players. No one is too inexperienced to come play with us on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
We even have a fabulous pickleball instructor who comes most Tuesdays & Thursdays to help you improve your game! When an instructor is here teaching, the court closest to the door is for them to use to teach. If they have enough new players, they could use two courts if he needs to. People who want to learn from the instructor should use the wire paddle saddle inside on the bleachers by that court. People not the instructor's services use the regular white box paddle saddle for the other two courts.
People of all skill levels are welcome to improve their skills with our guest instructors. There is no additional fee for learning from instructors!
There are also Drill/Beginner/Social sessions available on M/W/F from noon-2:30 that are not nearly as busy as the T/TH sessions. Please check out that option as well!
Pickleball is a paddle sport which uses elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. At Highland, we currently play on courts set up in our gymnasium. The sport is played on a badminton sized court with a pickleball net. The game is played with a paddle and plastic balls. Paddles may be checked out for use at no charge.
