Okinawan Shuri Te is the name of the karate that developed in the area around the city of Shuri on the island of Okinawa. Karate is a Japanese word meaning “empty hand” that was given to the Okinawan art of self-defense. Shuri-Te is a striking art with fast movements and natural breathing. Self defense techniques are trained through the study of empty-handed forms known as kata. This class will be led by Thomas Lockhart (6th Degree Black Belt) & Jason Meyer (4th Degree Black Belt). They will train traditional methods of self defense (Shuri Te) and incorporate basic elements of Judo for a comprehensive martial arts training approach.
