Did you know that Maine has a deciduous needled tree called the Tamarack? Have you ever seen the thorny pinecones of a Pitch Pine? Can you find cranberries even as winter approaches? Come, wearing treads on your boots, with us to the Saco Heath. This special Wabanaki landscape looks so different in every season and is a perfect place to welcome the coming of winter. Learn about how mammals and amphibians survive the cold, and what nature can teach us about slowing down, getting cozy, and taking some time to rest. This walk has a wooded part, with roots and a boardwalk section, which may be icy. Please dress warmly and wear crampons or treads on your feet so as to stay upright! There is parking at the trail and a few benches at the boardwalk section of the bog to sit and take a break if needed. Walk begins promptly at 10am. Communicate accessibility concerns at registration. Registration closes at noon on 12/11.
