Hoka Cielo X1 3.0
The Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 is a lightweight racing shoe built for speed and efficiency. Featuring a responsive midsole and a carbon-fiber plate for propulsion, this shoe delivers explosive energy return with every stride. The breathable upper ensures a snug fit, while the durable outsole provides reliable traction on race day. Whether you're competing in a 5K or a marathon, the Cielo X1 3.0 is designed to help you achieve your fastest times.
On only one other occasion have i ever felt like a shoe was made for my foot. The Cielo X1 3.0 is that shoe. I imagine a team of angels up there, singing about my feet and my PR goals as they made these shoes specifically for me.
First Impressions:
Fits like a glove. I have narrow feet, and these run a little narrow, so they feel great on my feet. The Cielo X1 3.0 is very comfortable after a short-lived reintroduction to the rocker design that tends to lean and push you forward. While the stack height is high and has a cushy midsole, this shoe is very responsive and punchy. Knitted, lightweight mesh upper make the shoe very breathable.
Things We Liked:
Other than them being a perfect fit for my feet, my favorite thing is the propulsive rocker design. These are my fast shoes. These are my business shoes. These are the shoes that I put on when it's time to get to work and haul ass.
Areas for Improvement:
It's a small thing, but maybe go with a knitted nylon lace instead of the woven synthetic material. Unless I double-knot them, I've had a few ocassions where I've had to stop and re-tie a shoe. And I don't like double-knotting my shoes unless it's race day because I don't want to fumble around with unknotting doubleknots every day.
Final Thoughts
The HOKA Cielo X1 3.0 is a shoe that's designed to go fast. It's a lace up and go to work shoe. And they can act as many arrows in your quiver, from intervals, tempos, and the 5k through the marathon. Aggressive and punchy don't really do these shoes justice. They're snug and comfortable, breathable and stable, and cushy and quick.
The rocker design in the sole and full-length carbon fiber plate makes these shoes perform as advertised with their "pace pushing propulsion." That's what they do. You put these shoes on to go to work. To run fast. To fly. The only downside is that the Cielo X1 3.0 run a bit narrow, but if the shoe fits, be ready to PR.

Hoka Gaviota 6
The Hoka Gaviota 6 is a stability-focused running shoe that offers plush cushioning and reliable support. Featuring Hoka’s J-Frame technology, this shoe guides your foot naturally while reducing overpronation. The cushioned midsole provides a soft yet responsive ride, while the breathable upper ensures all-day comfort. Perfect for long runs and daily training, the Gaviota 6 is designed to keep you steady and comfortable mile after mile.
Hoka seems to have really improved in quality. They still have some work to do on the design but they lasted much longer than any nike shoes.
First Impressions:
They seem square at the toe but overall they fit pretty well. Comfort and support was there, maybe a little wide for a standard fit.
Great color scheme, good level of support, comfortable fit, and thick durable outsole.
Things We Liked:
support, support really held up after 50 miles of running.
True fit even for someone with wide, flat feet.
Areas for Improvement:
Seems a little wide, a little more cushion in the heal.
It is a little bit heavier than other styles of Hoka so it might feel different at first.
Final Thoughts
The new Hoka Gaviota 6 shoes have really improved. They over look still needs some work but the comfort, support, and stability has really improved. Normally I would expect the shoe to break down after 50 miles but at 70 + miles they are still going strong. If you can get past the look and style of the shoes I would give these shoes a try. One of the longer lasting shoes on the market.

The toungue lacks the padding I am looking for in an everyday shoe. This is a small items but could be a deal breaker for some.

Hoka Speedgoat 7
The Hoka Speedgoat 7 is a trail-running shoe designed to conquer rugged terrain with ease. Featuring a Vibram MegaGrip outsole for exceptional traction and a cushioned midsole for long-lasting comfort, this shoe is perfect for technical trails and ultra-distance runs. The breathable upper ensures ventilation, while the reinforced overlays provide added durability and protection. Whether you're navigating rocky paths or muddy trails, the Speedgoat 7 is built to perform.
Back on its throne, the Speedgoat dominates whatever trail you throw at it.
First Impressions:
Out of the box, I loved the look and I’m so glad they kept the pull tab in the back (little things matter). Slipping it on felt super familiar, very much like my tried-and-true Speedgoat 5’s, nice and secure through the midfoot and heel. I couldn't help but notice that the toe box is still a bit narrow though, and I definitely wish I had gone up a half size. Otherwise, they are super comfortable with a slightly more responsive feel and solid breathability for longer efforts.
Things We Liked:
One of my favorite things is actually the laces - they’re flat and simple, but they lock in so well and make the whole shoe feel secure without overthinking it. But honestly, the biggest standout is how dependable this shoe feels on any terrain ... I almost forgot I was even supposed to be reviewing them because I didn’t have to think twice about footing (even with constant transitions between mud, slick spots, and dry trail) I feel like It’s one of those pairs I can just throw on and trust to handle whatever’s out there.
Areas for Improvement:
If I had to pick one area for improvement, it would be the toe box. I’d love to see just a bit more room up front. It still runs a little narrow for me, especially on longer runs or descents where your toes need that extra space, and I found myself wishing I had a half-size larger.
Final Thoughts
How does the GOAT stay on top? By listening - and the HOKA Speedgoat 7 proves it. Built on feedback from loyal fans, skeptics, and critics alike, this version leans into refinement over reinvention. From the first step, it feels purposefully grounded, confident, and ready to deliver. The updated supercritical EVA midsole brings a touch more life underfoot, offering a subtle bounce while maintaining the stable, protective ride the series is known for. Paired with the trusted Vibram Megagrip outsole, traction remains a standout, giving you confidence across everything from loose dirt to slick surprises, and technical descents. This is consistency you can count on.
This is where the Speedgoat 7 truly earns its “jack of all trades” reputation. Whether you're facing short trail efforts or long, grinding miles, it shows up ready to work. The refined upper provides a secure yet flexible and comfortable lockdown, especially through the heel and midfoot. At its core, this shoe is about dependability. Its purpose shines through in every mile, delivering the kind of durable, do-it-all performance that will carry you through any trail endeavor, no matter how long or short.

Our Comprehensive Testing Process
To bring you this guide, our expert team, comprised of seasoned runners and footwear specialists, conducted extensive testing on a wide array of shoes. We are committed to providing reliable and unbiased recommendations based on real-world performance.
Each pair of shoes was subjected to a minimum of 20 miles of running across varied terrains, from city pavements to park trails. Our testers meticulously evaluated each shoe based on a set of key criteria to ensure a thorough and balanced assessment.
Key Evaluation Criteria:
- Comfort: We assessed the initial feel and long-run comfort, noting any pressure points or areas of discomfort.
- Fit: Testers evaluated how the shoe conformed to the foot, including the security of the heel, the width of the toebox, and the overall lockdown.
- Weight: We considered the physical weight of the shoe and how it felt during a run—whether it felt light and nimble or heavy and cumbersome.
- Breathability: The upper materials were tested for airflow to determine how well they managed heat and moisture during a run.
- Flexibility: We analyzed the shoe's flexibility in the forefoot and its overall ability to move naturally with the runner's stride.
- Overall Ride: This is a comprehensive assessment of the shoe's performance. It includes the quality of the cushioning, the smoothness of the heel-to-toe transition, and the general feeling of the shoe in motion.
