Did you know basketball was invented at the YMCA? That legacy lives on today — and you can be part of it! The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is bringing together youth from across the region for an exciting season of basketball built on teamwork, growth, and community.
We’re Calling All Volunteer Coaches – and That Means You!YMCA basketball is more than just a game — it’s a platform for developing young athletes in spirit, mind, and body. Volunteer coaches are the backbone of our program, and we’re looking for positive role models who are ready to inspire, teach, and support the next generation of players.
By coaching, you’ll help shape character, sportsmanship, and confidence in every child — while being part of a movement rooted in caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusion.
Training & Child Safety Requirements: To ensure a safe and meaningful experience for everyone, plan for approximately 4–6 hours of training before the season starts. All coaches must complete:

• A national SSN-based background check
• Online child abuse prevention & athlete protection training
• Online YMCA Coach Training
• Submission of 3 references

• Practices are held at your home YMCA branch starting the week of January 19th.
• Games will be played on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and rotate between YMCA participating locations across the region Starting January 31st
• Championship Day is on Saturday March 21st, located at the UWM Sports Complex in Pontiac.
