About this event
Discover the magic of a simple, versatile Lithuanian pantry as you learn to cook three easy, nutritious, buildable meals that have kept Lithuanians fed and strong for centuries! Sofija Kleinschmidt shows you how to create some of the traditional dishes she learned growing up on her grandmother’s farm where farm-to-table was simply normal life: kotletų, a beginner-friendly rice-based dish with flavor-packed meatballs and a deliciously rich creamy sauce; blyniuku, foolproof universal crepes made in both sweet and savory variations perfect to fill with leftover ingredients you’re looking to finish off (in class we will be making three varieties filled with banana, chicken, and cheese); and žemaičiu blynai, tender potato pancakes stuffed with a bold, hearty beef or chicken filling with a side of refreshing tomato salad. Registration fee includes all ingredients. Instructor Sofija Kleinschmidt learned the art of farm-to-table cooking in her grandmother's Lithuanian farmhouse kitchen. Her family came to Maine during the breakup of the Soviet Union. A young, music world visionary and former professional opera singer, she aims to cultivate a safe and inspiring learning environment in which students feel safe and excited to learn—whether singing or cooking!
