About this event
Wild basketry is an ancient craft weaving natural materials such as grasses, leaves, wood, vines, and tree bark into functional and decorative containers. We will review how to collect, process, and create baskets with locally-sourced plants. Some materials we may use are cattail, pine needle, birch bark, white ash, pine bark, willow, grasses, red osier dogwood, and grapevine. This will be an interactive and hands-on class with a presentation and basket demos. Students will be given an opportunity to work with some of the materials and create a basket. A PDF will be shared with information on the materials and patterns. NO REFUNDS UNLESS THE CLASS IS CANCELLED OR RESCHEDULED. Instructor Jessica Steele has a deep passion for the wilderness and for teaching. She has been working in the field of Adventure and Environmental Education for more than thirty years. This leg of her journey is about connecting more deeply with herself, others, and the wilderness. Join her for a program of connection, learning, and growing.
