About this event
This 36-hour introductory course is designed for students with little or no prior experience in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly known as MIG welding. Instruction focuses on core skills including shop safety protocols, equipment setup, machine parameter adjustments, and identification and correction of common welding defects. Students will learn to prepare and weld a variety of basic joint types such as butt, lap, and T-joints using mild steel in various positions. Safety training, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard awareness, is covered extensively in the first session. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to enroll in MIG II or TIG Welding for further skill development. Students must bring their own safety glasses, welding gloves, and reinforced-toe footwear.
