Join us for an opening reception of Janet Harlow's plein air paintings. Janet Harlow of Harvard presents paintings inspired by hiking in the McHenry County Conservation District sites. She discovered the beauty of these set aside landscapes in 1997. Beginning outside of Harvard at the Rush Creek site, the paths became very important to her, adding solace and beauty to every walk there. During rain, shine and snow she has witnessed flamboyant beauty and quiet change. Poetry was the first inspiration in her thoughts and experiences there, but now in the last few years, she is working to capture the poetry of the landscape in oil and acrylic paint.
Included in the display are plein air paintings done on location at the various Conservation District locations and studio work from images. She and her husband enjoy exploring other District sites and expressing in her paintings the nature and treasures of these unique places hidden in plain sight. If the weather permits at the reception she will have a plein air setup and share about the process.
