About this event
Be inspired by the imaginative world of video artist Marco Brambilla as you create a hands-on optical toy that brings the colors, shapes, and patterns of film to life. Using mirror board, cardboard, and playful collage materials, families will design a miniature pop-culture collage infused with your favorite colors, characters, and movie moments. We’ll kick off in the galleries with Brambilla’s momentous installation Heaven’s Gate. Together, we’ll explore balance, symmetry, and asymmetry through fun visual games, look closely at the story the artwork is telling, and discover surprising connections to artwork like Hieronymus Bosch and Dante’s Divine Comedy. Why join? Enjoy meaningful time looking at art together, then collaborate as a family to transform everyday materials into a kaleidoscope or “beautiful observer of forms,” that celebrates the stories, characters, and cinematic worlds your family loves. Expect to make something bright, silly, creative, and totally unique to your family. Each family group must include at least one adult and one child, add additional adults for $10, additional children for $5 each. (ages 7+).
