About this event
Learn how to make an Irish-inspired stick chair in this five day course taught by Claire Butler. This class is an introduction to building stick chairs, a vernacular form of furniture that has been around for centuries. Many stick chairs were built by farmers or amateur woodworkers in their free time using the wood they had on hand. This class will teach students how to make these chairs with a small kit of hand tools, a band saw and wood available from any lumberyard. This chair is a lot of fun to build and very strong. It has a generous back lean, making it enjoyable for relaxing and having a drink. Students will leave with a comfortable, robust chair they can unwind in after a long days work. The chair design was created by Christopher Schwarz and is featured in The Stick Chair Book. Claire has assisted Chris in several of his stick chair classes.
