About this event
Designed specifically for women and couples, this supportive, hands-on navigation class builds real confidence with practical, transferable skills. You’ll learn how to read and understand paper charts, find your latitude and longitude, take and plot bearings, and determine your position using dead reckoning and fixes. We’ll break down tides, currents, speed, and time so you can plan a safe route—and adjust when conditions change. You’ll also practice using GPS and electronic charts correctly, understand why datum matters, interpret aids to navigation, and plot a clear course to harbor or to a man overboard. With small, in-person classes, you’ll learn in a supportive environment that encourages questions, builds confidence, and meets you where you are. This two-part class is in person at the Northwest Maritime campus, and the class fee is per participant. 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: • Prerequisites: None • Platform: In-person at the NWM Campus • Teaching style: This class consists of a presentation followed by interactive discussions and a Q&A session. • Duration: (2) two-hour sessions • Notes: Please watch for a reminder email that will be sent one week before class.
