About this event
Spend a day discovering the rich bounty of the Salish Sea in this fun and informative one-day class designed for beginners. We’ll introduce you to the basics of fishing and foraging along our beautiful coastline, with a focus on sustainably harvesting Dungeness crab, flatfish like flounder and sole, and a variety of clams. You’ll learn where to go, what gear you need, how to set crab pots, dig clams without flooding your boots, and catch flatfish using simple, effective techniques. We’ll cover essential rules and regulations to keep your harvesting legal and responsible, along with tips for identifying species, checking tides, and staying safe on the water. Expect a hands-on experience with plenty of time for questions, demonstrations, and maybe even a few fishing stories. This is a great class for anyone curious about coastal living, food gathering, or just wanting to get outside and do something a little salty. No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity and a sturdy pair of boots. By the end of the day, you’ll have the skills and confidence to start exploring the edible treasures of the Salish Sea on your own.
