About this event
Join us for a unique five-day immersive experience where participants come together to build a beautiful, wooden fishing-style playboat that will become a permanent fixture on the Commons at the Northwest Maritime Center. This is your chance to roll up your sleeves, pick up real tools, and help bring a community play structure to life one plank at a time. Designed to look like a classic wooden fish boat, this structure will serve as a hands-on homage to the working boats of the Salish Sea. Throughout the week, students will learn the basics of boat construction, including layout, structure, joinery, and fastening techniques. You'll gain hands-on experience with both hand and power tools while working alongside skilled instructors who will guide the process from keel to cabin top. No prior woodworking or boatbuilding experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and collaborate. This is more than just a build; it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, teamwork, and community. Participants will work together to create something lasting and meaningful that will spark imagination and adventure for kids and kids-at-heart for years to come. You'll leave with new skills, new friends, and the satisfaction of pointing to a boat in the heart of the Commons and saying, “I helped build that.” Whether you're a lifelong boat nerd or just curious about woodworking, this five-day class offers a fun, rewarding, and impactful way to get involved.
