Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Join the City of Port Coquitlam for a special film screening in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Through the powerful National Film Board of Canada documentary Laxwesa Wa: Strength of the River, participants are invited to reflect on Indigenous knowledge, storytelling, cultural resilience, and the enduring relationship between people, community, and the land.Laxwesa Wa: Strength of the River explores the history, culture, and resilience of the Stó꞉lō people through the story of the Fraser River and its significance to Indigenous communities. The film offers a powerful perspective on the deep connections between the river, the land, language, culture, and generations of Stó꞉lō people.
This screening provides an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on Indigenous perspectives and lived experiences, while considering the ongoing importance of reconciliation. Participants are invited to engage with the film as a starting point for deeper understanding and reflection.
The Coquitlam River Watershed Society (CRWS) and Watershed Watch Salmon Society (WWSS) will both be on site for the event and will participate in a discussion following the film screening.
