The GCU Men’s Rugby team enters its fifth season in 2018-19 as a young and rapidly progressing program. In just four years, the program already made an impact on collegiate rugby in the West, and in its first season in D1A Rugby, reached the 2018 playoffs, and earned a national ranking for nearly the entire season. Since the program’s inception, the team has played top competition in both 15s and 7s. GCU Men's Rugby had immediate success in recruiting, enrolling several top high school players and collegiate transfers from across the country. GCU Men's Rugby’s roster includes nearly 60 players from 16 states. This includes several USA Rugby High School All-Americans, many Stars and Stripes Camp participants and several players who played internationally as part of the USA U20 program. GCU has made a large commitment to the men’s rugby program with the hiring of international standout Cam Wyper, who heads into his second year as head coach. GCU provides practice and game facilities, weight training with a certified strength coach, athletic training support, equipment, kit, travel resources and more. GCU Men's Rugby competes in 15s and 7s. In 15s, the Lopes reached the 2007 Division I-AA national semifinals after posting regular-season wins against Notre Dame, Santa Clara and Long Beach State. GCU Men's Rugby offers free campus visits to qualified high school junior and senior recruits. These campus visits allow interested athletes to fly to Phoenix and stay overnight in campus residence halls. Recruits have a chance to see the beautiful campus, meet coaches and players and speak with admissions counselors.
