About this event

This activity is closed to further registration.

Explore the exciting world of creating with oil and cold wax. Cold wax is uniquely different from encaustic as it proves incredible depth and texture with less set up. Enjoy demos and lots of individual attention. Learn how to turn accidents into unexpected joys. Aspects of abstract composition and what makes a piece “work” will be shared. Candace’s teaching style is engaging and inspirational. This workshop is open to all levels but is geared toward beginning and intermediate painters. Supply list will be emailed prior to class or you may download the list below. An additional $3 supply fee is payable to Candace French on the first day of class.

If health orders do not allow for in-person classes, Candace French will hold class virtually. If class is held virtually, students will be provided a full supply list to acquire on their own.

Exploring Oil with Cold Wax Supply List Candace French Mixed Media Artist

1 - 4 oz. jar of cold wax medium, either Gamblin or Dorland’s found at Guirys or Micheals. • 1 - Selection of at least 3 small tubes of oil paints in your favorite brand and colors. Note: the water based oil paints dry faster and are easier to use. • 2 - Wood Panels or Canvas Boards, 6” X 6”, 10” X 10” or 8” X 10”. The key is to have a firm surface. • Palette knife with rounded tip about 3” in length for the flat part and a bend in the handle and a rounded tip about the size of the end of one of your small fingers. The palette knife looks like a pie server because it has a bend in the handle, but, it is smaller. It can be metal or plastic. • Palette, or flat surface for blending paints. There is a broad range of palettes. You can choose a pad of disposable palette sheets, a large glass palette or a plastic palette container with or without a lid, styrofoam plate or tin foil. • Optional household tools such as basting brushes, plastic combs, anything for scraping and mark making. Dollar Store or Dollar Tree have a great selection. • Brushes: One or two brushes small round brushes. • Roll of 1” painters tape. • Small container of odorless mineral spirits. • Smock or something to cover you clothes. • Note pad and pen or pencil for taking notes. • $3.00 supply fee to instructor.
