Get ready to explore the world of surveying and geospatial technology! In this hands-on, two-day camp, students will dive into high-tech tools used in mapping, exploration, and land surveying. With guidance from experts at Northwestern Michigan College, campers will rotate through interactive stations that introduce them to real-world tools and exciting career opportunities in this fast-growing field. HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES Basic Survey Equipment – Learn surveying fundamentals and practice key skills on a compass. LiDAR Laser Scanner – See how 3D laser scanning captures precise details of landscapes and structures Robotic Total Station – Try your hand at real-world land surveying using cutting-edge equipment. UAS Drone Simulator – Fly a simulated drone and learn how aerial imaging is used in mapping ROV Simulator – Pilot a remotely operated vehicle underwater (virtually!) and discover how it's used in environmental and structural surveys Create your own survey map using real field data Students will learn about: Surveying techniques and technologies Discover how geospatial technology is used in real careers like surveying, construction, marine tech, remote sensing and environmental science Skills and education needed for success in these industries Clothing requirements for safety: ** Participants are required to wear closed toe shoes.
