Description

This course begins where all great screen performances do: with the actor. Before working with the camera, participants will build the foundation of performance by developing a fully realized character and the presence to inhabit that character truthfully in the moment. The course includes an introductory look at the Method, one of film’s most enduring and often misunderstood acting traditions. Participants will separate the mythology from the practice while exploring core exercises that make the technique immediately useful on screen. From there, the course turns attention to the camera itself and the craft of working with it. Participants will learn the unwritten language of the set, including marks, blocking, frame awareness, and how to move in ways that serve both the scene and the shot. The course also covers set etiquette, industry terminology, and practical strategies that help actors feel confident and collaborative on a professional production. By the end of the course, participants will understand that the camera does not change what acting is; it simply asks actors to trust the process more deeply. Instructor: Moema Umann
