Description

Learn to write original comedy sketches in the tradition of Saturday Night Live and SCTV. This hands-on, four-week intensive covers premise generation, scene structure, escalation, rewriting, and punch-up techniques. Students will develop short sketches from initial idea to final draft while building strong characters, heightening absurdity, and crafting effective endings. The course culminates in a staged reading at TC Media’s studio, where student sketches will be performed and recorded. Participants will leave with at least one polished original sketch script, along with the experience of hearing their work read aloud and seeing it move from page to stage. Instructor Brian Kahn is a veteran comedy writer with more than 30 years of professional experience in sitcom and sketch comedy, with credits including NBC, Paramount, Nickelodeon, and FOX Entertainment.
