Fires due to lithium containing batteries are a huge issue in the waste industry. Watch a slide presentation on where batteries come from and why it's so important to recycle batteries properly (not in your single-stream bin). Discuss what happens to batteries when they come to ecomaine, and a bit of show and tell on battery types (some that survived our recycling facility). Erika Schaper is an Environmental Educator at ecomaine where she teaches schools and community groups about waste reduction, recycling, composting, and all things trash. Before joining ecomaine, she worked as the Outreach and Education Coordinator for Lamoille Regional Solid Waste District in VT, and also taught science.
