Beginner Bow Making

The BOWS Shop • 1749 17th St. OaklandCA  94607 Organized by Black Oak Wilderness School Incorporated $25 instant refund on this event with gift card.

About this event

Learn to make a traditional hickory flat bow. One night per week for 4 weeks. One Wednesday per week for 4 weeks. Using only handtools students will start by creating a "bow blank" already floor tillered. We will start by making string Once the string is made you will carve out the notches on your bow in which the string sits and we will begin the process of refinement tillering which is removing material from your bow until each limb flexes equally and in the correct shape. The last step is to sand, back, and oil your bow. Once complete you will have an ambidextrous hand made bow ready to take to the range on our recurring Saturday and Sunday open archery range. A portion of your ticket price is set aside to support our non-profit work providing accessible outdoor and experiential education to young students from historically excluded or marginalized communities.
