In honor of National Read a Book Day, join fellow readers for a discussion of the bestselling novel The Women by Kristin Hannah. The Women is 2024 Historical fiction novel about Frances "Frankie" McGrath, a young nurse who serves in the Vietnam War, focusing on her experiences in combat and her struggle to readjust to a country that denies her service upon her return. The book explores themes of friendship, sacrifice, patriotism, and the often-overlooked contributions and trauma of women who served, highlighting their fight for recognition and healing from PTSD. It follows her journey from an idealistic volunteer to a veteran grappling with a divided America and the lasting impact of war. Registered participants may pick up a copy of the book at the Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Rd., beginning the week of August 31. Then, join us on Tuesday, September 29 at 10:30 a.m. to share your thoughts, insights, and favorite moments from the book.
