The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History leads the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations with a bold, immersive exhibition exploring the ideals of the Declaration of Independence. In Pursuit of Life, Liberty & Happiness spans three floors and 300,000 square feet and features 250 significant objects that represent moments that transformed the Nation. One such object is the desk Thomas Jefferson used to draft the Declaration of Independence. Through these incredible objects from the Revolutionary era to today, the exhibition will examine how people have sought to define and claim the nation’s founding ideals across 250 years of United States history. A meal voucher is included during your visit for America’s Table Café.This afternoon, visit another museum central to the nation’s 250th Birthday – the National Archives. You saw the desk this morning where the Declaration of Independence was written – now see the actual document! Their new exhibition series, Opening the Vault, has put on display some of the most historically valuable and iconic artifacts in American history. You will also have a chance to see their all-new permanent exhibition, The American Story, which captures the full range of the American experience throughout 250 years of history.
