We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Thursday, August 18, 2022.
This course will combine skill training of kicks and basic tumbling with music.
HISTORY: Capoeira was an underground martial art form designed by the slaves that were taken from Angola, (West Africa). The music from their homemade instruments disguised their fighting as a dance and they played out their moves by the instruction of the rhythms. The challengers were hidden in a tight circle of singing to keep the slave owners from knowing they were fighting each other. The moves are choreographed in a way to never hurt or even touch each other. Instead, on "wins" by showing up the other with cunning skill and outsmarting the other's technique.
The entire sequence of sparing ("playing " each other) is dictated by the music. Capoeira is a joyously unique art form to be experienced.
This workshop is recommended for families and encouraged for gymnasts. Capoeira can be enjoyed at all ages and is best to be learned with a parent, sibling, or friend to practice and play with!
This is a great workshop to take along side your kids!
