About this event
Taught by Karen Berstler, Ages 18+ 4 Mondays, September 11- October 2, 6:30-8:30pm This class is for students who have taken the Beginner Watercolor session or already have some experience with watercolor painting. We will explore the use of light and shadow and color more fully. Each session will have exercises in the different design concepts and a small example will be completed. Participants will complete a still life painting as the final project of the class. Materials list below is also on file at Jerry's Artarama in Newark. Art Supplies Needed: Paper: Watercolor block, 140 lb, cold press 100% cotton, 9”x12”. Two brands I recommend are Legion Stonehenge, and Winsor Newton. (They have a medium level price point). Of course, you can use any brand that you choose, as long as those basic criteria are met. Brushes: Short handled brushes- 1” flat brush, no. 10 round, and no. 6 round. There are many brands to choose from, synthetic as well as natural hair. Choose brushes that are specific to watercolor, and are either real sable hair, or synthetic sable hair. Paint: 5 ml tube of a red, blue and yellow. Winsor Newton brand, Daniel Smith, or DaVinci brand are all good choices. If you are looking for a student grade I like Cottman brand from Winsor Newton, they are very affordable. You can use any brand that you prefer, there are some very good choices out there. Additions for the Beyond Beginner Watercolor: A few new paint colors, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Dioxazine Violet, and Hookers Green, (These are Winsor Newton Colors) Paint Palette: Something simple that has at least 7 wells for color.
