About this event
5 Mondays, June 29 - July 27, 6:30 - 9:00 pm Oil Painting: Water Lilies Taught by Julie Webb, 18+ By studying Claude Monet's "Water Lilies" we can learn how he saw and interpreted his environment and improve our ability to paint what we see. We will build our painting vocabulary by practicing traditional techniques to create depth, light, and texture. We will learn how to manipulate oil paint by working "wet into wet" and layering over dry paint. We will mix many colors from a limited palette; and learn how to harness the "Three Cs"-- composition, contrast, and color. Bring home your own version of Monet's "Water Lilies," and new skills that you can apply to your next painting endeavor. Students will provide: One 10 x 10 inch stretched canvas or canvas panel (primed) One 8 x 8 inch canvas panel (primed) Two filbert brushes size #4 One oil painting palette One small screw-top jar for gamsol Gamsol (small) One roll of paper towels 37ml oil paints: titanium white ultramarine blue alizarin crimson vermillion yellow ochre naples yellow lemon yellow sap green viridian green I will have tabletop easels, gamsol, extra oil paints, brushes, and palette knives available The Newark Arts Alliance will retain a $5 cancellation fee if a student withdraws from a class. Julie Webb is an alumna of Studio Incamminati, Portland State University, and Arts and Communication Magnet Academy. She has maintained her painting practice since childhood and is excited to share what she has learned over the last three decades, both from her own studio time and from her many instructors. She is known for her contemporary realist oil paintings of women at work in marginalized occupations, and has recently shifted direction towards abstraction as she attempts to capture the beauty of Nature through plein air painting.
