This course is the first in a sequence of drawing classes and will focus on observational drawing of objects from life. Through a series of exercises students will become familiar with fundamental techniques necessary to translate three-dimensional forms and spaces to a two-dimensional surface. Special attention is paid to such essential aspects of drawing as relative proportion, linear perspective, value, and texture. Materials: NEEDED • 18”x24”, 24 Sheet Cream Drawing Pad, 80 or 90 Ib., such as Strathmore 400 series or Canson Classic Cream drawing pad • Graphite Pencils (HB, 2B, 4B, 6B) • Vine or Willow Charcoal (not charcoal pencil, not compressed charcoal), in Thick and Medium sizes • Kneaded Eraser • Small Pencil Sharpener • 18” Ruler (cork-backed metal recommended) OPTIONAL • Plastic or Gum Eraser • 18”x24” Charcoal Paper or Newsprint pads • Sketchbook (12”x9” recommended)
