About this event
In this FAMILY ceramics class, parents and children (ages 6+) join in the fun together! Each tuition is for two participants! Option to add additional child to order. Learn the fundamentals of ceramic hand building while creating unique jewelry and wearable art. Over three weeks, you'll sculpt, glaze, and assemble your own ceramic beads, charms, and small sculptural pieces into a finished piece of wearable art — ready to take home on the last day of class. Each participant makes five kiln-fired ceramic charms assembled into a jewelry piece of your choosing — a necklace, bracelet, earrings, bolo tie, or any wearable design you dream up. Using pliers, jump rings, and findings, you'll embellish your work with beads, gems, yarn, feathers, and more. Because all pieces are kiln fired, your finished jewelry is durable enough for everyday wear. All skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. Week 1 — Sculpt: Hand-build your ceramic charms and small sculptural pieces, then bisque fire. Week 2 — Glaze: Decorate with underglazes and apply a clear glaze finish, then cone 6 fire in the kiln. Week 3 — Assemble: Bring it all together into your finished, wearable piece of art. MEET THE TEACHER: FAITH MCCASLIN-GROSSNICKLAUS (she/her) is a working artist and musician in New Orleans. She got her start working alongside her ceramicist parents at Bell Pine Art Farm in Oregon. Drawing inspiration from folklore, the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, and the flora and fauna of the Pacific Northwest, she quickly developed her own distinct style under the moniker Bone China Designs. She began studying traditional Scottish fiddle at age 7 before attending the Academy of Arts and Academics in Springfield, Oregon, where she learned to integrate her different fields of interest, combining ceramics and costuming with theatrical musical performance. For the last 12 years she has travelled the country and abroad presenting her ceramic work and performing solo or in the band Roselit Bone.
