About this event
Varicella-zoster virus infections, including chickenpox and shingles, remain important conditions for healthcare professionals to recognize and manage across diverse patient populations. This self-paced e-learning module provides a practical overview of varicella and herpes zoster, focusing on their clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Learners will explore the epidemiology and pathogenesis of these conditions, identify key signs and symptoms, and examine evidence-based management strategies, including antiviral therapies and vaccination recommendations. The course also addresses potential complications and appropriate referral considerations for complex cases. Designed for nurses, nurse practitioners, physician associates, and other healthcare professionals, this module equips learners with the knowledge and confidence to support timely diagnosis and effective patient care. Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation. To earn continuing education credit, participants must complete the entire module and achieve a score of 80% or higher on the post-quiz. Upon successful completion, learners will be awarded 0.5 ANCC contact hours.
