About this event
TRClassroom powered by Minecraft EDU Computer Science Kit Instructor-led, Coding Education Program for students in Lower Secondary (Grades 6-8 | Ages 11-14) In this course, students are learning computational thinking and beginning computer science concepts. Students will use Code Builder to create code using MakeCode word blocks. In this unit, students will be able to build out their content knowledge and develop their skills as they create their Minecraft City with code! Take your time with these activities and coding experiences as they are critical for building out a strong computer science foundation for our youngest learners. Coding with Minecraft is specially designed computer science content for students in Lower Secondary/Grades 6-8/Ages 11-14. Students will learn, practice, and apply relevant computer science skills and concepts as well as literacy skills in both unplugged and digital experiences. The lessons are designed to provide students with an opportunity to build knowledge of the concept(s) in an unplugged version (i.e., demonstrate the concept on paper), practice the concept with the direct support of their teacher in the Minecraft world, and then finally by completing the task independently. Learners will explore Newton’s Laws to design and launch a rocket, use code to navigate the Orion space capsule, and work as a team to build a survival base on the moon – meeting scientists along the way. Take on this lunar adventure with free educator resources aligned to NSTA standards and created in partnership with NASA and the Challenger Center. No classes on these dates: - 9/2/23 - 9/4/23 (Labor Day) - 9/30/23 - 10/14/23 (TRC Fall Break) - 11/20/23 - 11/25/23 (Thanksgiving) - 12/4/23 (TRC Closed)
