About this event
Description
Halina Drexler (later Zimm) grew up in Lodz, Poland, with her parents and two sisters, Helen and Nana. In Poland life was pleasant until Nazis invaded the country in 1939. The invasion closed schools and Jews were forced to wear the Yellow Star. Recognizing the eminent danger to his family, Halina’s father Solomon Drexler and his family evacuated Lodz and made their way to Zarnow. In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Virginia Holocaust Museum is sponsoring a survivor speaker presentation. The Virginia Holocaust Museum opened in 1997 and has a speakers bureau comprised of individuals that survived genocide and include speakers that survived, the Holocaust, Cambodian Genocide, and the Rwandan Genocide. Holocaust survivor Halina Zimm shares her personal story of perseverance and endurance. Join us immediately after this presentation for a warm and welcoming reception hosted by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Halina, continue the conversation, and connect with fellow attendees. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.Location
