About this event
“That wasn’t what happened in the book!” “Wait, this was a book first?” If you love stories in books, television, or both, this is the club for you. During meetings, we’ll read sections of books together and compare them to their screen adaptations. Club members will explore how writing changes when writing for screen versus books. What can a book do that a movie can't – and vice versa? Stories to be discussed include: Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan (which has both film and TV adaptations) The Giver by Lois Lowry How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell Avatar the Last Airbender (a show with a comic continuation and an ongoing live action adaptation). (No need to panic about an extra workload – all the reading needed will be done together in the club.) In addition, club time will be devoted to Creative Writing! Whether writing scripts or novels, poetry or comics, club members will explore their love for story telling across mediums. Ms. Rabah holds a Bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. She is also a graduate of the 2023 Summer Publishing Institute at NYU. She has taught a Creative Writing Summer Camp at Woodlawn the past two years. Cost includes all materials needed for the club.
