Biology presents an investigation of the relationship between the structure and function of living organisms, the interdependence and interactions of biotic and abiotic components of the environment, and evolutionary mechanisms that maintain continuity and lead to changes in populations over time. Students explore biological concepts through an inquiry approach in which hands-on learning exercises are crucial to understanding these concepts. Laboratory explorations and the incorporation of technology are integral aspects of the development of core knowledge, principles of scientific investigation, critical thinking, and an understanding of the role of biotechnology and its impact on society.
