This course introduces students to the fundamentals of chess strategy and tactics while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will learn opening principles, middle-game tactics, endgame techniques, and positional play through instruction, practice games, and puzzle-solving. The class welcomes all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced players, and emphasizes sportsmanship, patience, and analytical thinking. Students will have opportunities to participate in friendly tournaments and may prepare for interscholastic competition. Beyond the board, chess helps strengthen memory, concentration, planning abilities, and graceful handling of both victory and defeat.
